The main research areas of the department include: the scientific interpretation of the concept of energy security and conceptual approaches to this notion; the energy security policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the mechanisms of its impact at the local, regional, and global levels; the role of Azerbaijan–Georgia, Azerbaijan–Türkiye, and Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye cooperation formats in ensuring energy security in the region and in Europe; the main directions and prospects of regional cooperation in the field of renewable energy; the demographic, ethno-political, and cultural characteristics of Georgia, ongoing socio-economic and political processes, and their possible impact on the region; comparative analyses of similar processes taking place in the countries of the region, etc.

The department employs a total of 6 staff members, 2 of whom hold a PhD degree.
